It is a very famous adage “Health is Wealth”. In primitive
ages, people really used to follow this. But sadly, now priorities are changing
and people are getting busier with their jobs and running other errands, but
they do not have any time for their health.
People feel that they are healthy as long as they have their
jobs secured with a health insurance. And sorry to sound a bit rude, but could
you be a bit more sensitive towards your loved ones, and take care of your body
rather than just your bank accounts?
Yester Years versus
the Present and the Future
Assuming that you are not that old, I would not ask you to
go down the memory lane, but just browse the web and see some of the researches
which say that people of the bygone age used to be healthier and live longer
because of maintaining a physically and mentally healthy life. They used to do
gardening, pull bullock carts, work in the fields, go miles and miles away to fill
their earthen pots and swam across the rivers to go to the other village or
rowed boats. They used to play “Kushti” in the “Akhadaas” to maintain their
muscle strength and also that would keep them happy, so it ensured sound and
satisfied mental health. Their interest was not just into storing silver and
gold for themselves, but to live life to the fullest reckoning the fact that no
health would lead to no satisfaction and wastage of time and counting days of
pain to end.
If we compare current times with the older times, we will
find a drastic change in people’s lifestyles. It is now more about just saving
and saving by giving up on your health. Working late at night, disturbing the
equilibrium of body cycle, and then having expensive Calcium and Vitamin injections
and other medications to feel better about their drooping health! They simply
have no time to wake up in the morning at 5 am and enjoy the rising morning
sun, breath in some fresh oxygen from the beautiful nature and then exercise a
bit to keep the body rust free. Some would be sleeping late till 2pm, some
waking up at 2 am for work! Some people just throwing away their health all
night long to throw a grand party to people to show status and swag!
Who Says Health Is
Important?
If the same thing continues, then the time is nearing, when
having a life of 30-40 years would be like a miracle! There are rules of nature
which have been written in our various scriptures also. India has always been
rich with knowledge about body, mind and soul. Indian Vedas and Upanishads have
always spoken of body as the chariot and soul as the chauffer. So to enjoy the
journey of life, it is of utmost importance to take care of this body.
Patanjali Yog Pradeep is one of the knowledge banks, which has shown us how to
do different kinds of physical exercises called Yog Aasanas, so that we can
keep oneself fit and always happy. It also explains the role of all the body
nerves, vains, and rest of the organs. It can be simply called the best medical
book offering solution to every sickness or infirmity. And the solution lies in
Physical and Mental training.
Misunderstanding Exertion
and Exercise
It is a universally accepted fact that to enjoy the real
taste of life, one needs to be healthy. So, somewhere, taking into consideration
the exercising part, people somewhere or the else misunderstand its real
meaning and start calling it “Exertion” which is stressing up one self. There
has to be a balance which can’t be established just by running and running all
the time! There has to be a proper guidance to do that. Saints always used to
be available to teach the children that different arts under their strict
supervision and guidance. And the rule stands valid even today. No matter how
much we read Spanish online or in the books, unless we a good teacher to teach
us the right way to study it, we would never get it right, and there would
always be visible faults. To exert your self is to create an imbalance in body
in the name of exercising and then blaming such a help for its side effects.
But of you have the right guidance, nothing would ever o wrong, and you would
always receive something positive in return.
Who would show the
right way?
